Cherub of the High Desert
26x38 Framed
Acrylic on canvas
I’m fascinated by biblical descriptions of angels. From seraphim covered in eyes to ophanim that look like bizarre wheels covered in feathers and eyes. The depiction of cherubim is no less strange, and they’re certainly not the baby-like representations we see in a lot of art.
Cherubim are described as having two pairs of wings and 4 faces: an eagle, an ox, and a lion, representative of God’s dominion.
I’ve adapted this to reflect my own personal connection with the divine animals where I live in Northern New Mexico and with whom I have a deep connection: deer, raven, and coyote. The wings are shades of blue and brown, representing the sky and the earth.
